Frequently Asked Questions

Testing & Evaluation

Do you offer neuropsychological testing?

There is a lot of overlap in the types of evaluations done by clinical psychologists, neuropsychologists, school psychologists, and psychiatrists. Many of these professionals conduct evaluations for similar diagnostic questions and use some of the same assessment tools, which can make it confusing to know where to go for testing and evaluation services. The testing and evaluation services I offer typically focus on diagnostic questions related to autism, ADHD, and/or learning differences, such as dyslexia. During our phone consultation, we can discuss whether I might be a good fit for the type of evaluation you are seeking.

How much does an evaluation cost?

The total fee varies based on the complexity of the evaluation. Typically, the total fee ranges from $2200 to $2800. An evaluation for a young child generally costs less than an evaluation for an older child, teen, or young adult. You will be given a Good Faith Estimate with a specific cost based on the scope of testing required to answer your referral questions.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, I accept Quartz plans only. I do not offer out-of-network billing for other insurance companies.

Is my child too young for an evaluation?

It depends on the purpose of the evaluation or the questions being asked. For autism diagnostic evaluations, I assess children as young as 18 to 24 months old. For ADHD or learning differences, such as dyslexia, the diagnostic picture does not become clear until kids are a bit older. We can discuss your goals for the evaluation and what might be a good next step given your child’s age.

Do you do testing with adults (18+)?

My adult testing and evaluation services are limited to college students or college applicants in need of an updated psychoeducational evaluation for the purpose of applying for disability accommodations at school. Please note that these types of evaluations are not typically covered by insurance. I do not offer autism diagnostic evaluations for adults.

What is the evaluation process like?

After your initial consultation, you’ll meet with me for an in-depth clinical interview, so I can get a clear understanding of your child’s developmental history and your concerns. If you are a college student, we will make a plan together about how to best gather information about your developmental history.

I’ll develop an individualized testing plan designed to answer your questions and your child (or you, for adults 18+) will then meet with me for one or two testing sessions.

Next, I’ll put all of the information together and write a detailed evaluation report, which I’ll share with you at our feedback session. The report will include any relevant diagnoses and personalized recommendations for school and home, so you’ll know what steps to take next.

I’ll answer any questions you have about the evaluation and my recommendations, regardless of whether you think of the questions during our feedback session or six months later. I’m here for you.

Therapy

What age range of therapy clients do you work with?

For individual therapy, I typically work with adolescents and young adults. I can suggest some local providers who may be a good fit if you are seeking an adult specialist or therapy for a younger child.

What types of issues do you help with?

I work with client concerns related to anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity (including gender, sexuality, race, culture, disability) and self-advocacy, often in the context of neurodevelopmental differences, such as autism or ADHD.

What is neurodiversity-affirming therapy?

My neurodiversity-affirming approach to therapy starts with an understanding and genuine appreciation of all the different ways our brains work. I offer a safe, welcoming space in which folks can be who they are and explore emotional issues related to masking, sensory overload, and social communication differences. My approach to therapy does not try to “fix” autism, ADHD, or learning differences. Rather, I work with my clients to identify effective strategies for their individual needs while centering their unique gifts and supporting their self-advocacy.

Do you provide family therapy?

I only offer individual psychotherapy but can to refer you to local family therapists as needed.

How much does therapy cost?

The fee for the initial intake session is $260. The fee for ongoing 55-minute therapy sessions is $230.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, I accept Quartz plans only. I do not offer out-of-network billing for other insurance companies.
